He kicked off his year with a podium at the Matlock Cycling Club Hill Climb, battling soaring temperatures and steep gradients to take third place on the night. It was his first race of the season and a strong return to competition among a field of serious riders.
“Not sure about racing up a hill in a heatwave,” Steven writes, “but sure makes a change from the normal autumn rain and cold!

They feel really good and as I climb a lot on the drops they are really stiff but also comfortable and don’t feel any vibrations from the road, which on English roads and country lanes where hill climbs usually are is a massive bonus! Especially as I don’t use bar tape on my Hill Climb bike so that’s a big plus."
