Our take on the Supacaz Super Sticky Kush
Introducing the Litebike x Supacaz Super Sticky Kush bar tape 71g.
Bar tape is an easy upgrade and goes a long way to improving comfort on the bike and ultimately how well you perform.
Over the past few months we have been working on our own version which we think is the best bar tape money can buy. Innovation is often a case of bringing multiple good ideas together. We have taken the design philosophy of the Supacaz Super Sticky Kush and improved it to create something new that is easier to wrap and more comfortable than the Lizard Skins DSP 2.5mm.
We’re big fans of the Supacaz Super Sticky Kush. When I got my Canyon one of the first upgrades I remember making was replacing the original bar tape with the geometric patterns of the Supacaz. It’s a subtle upgrade but it made the bike feel like it was mine.
But while I loved the look of the Supacaz Super Sticky Kush it didn’t perform as well as I had hoped. One of the issues I noticed straight away was its lack of stretchiness which made it difficult to wrap around the handlebars and get a tight, uniform fit.
This is something Road.cc also picked up on in their review of the Supacaz Super Sticky Kush. The lack of stretch leaves raised edges all the way up the bar even when I was putting in all my effort to stretch the bar tape evenly over the handlebar.
The Supacaz Super Sticky Kush just also didn’t feel as comfortable as other bar tapes I had tried like the Lizard Skins DSP 2.5mm. I didn’t notice this on short 20km cycles but as I was ramping up to 50km+ I started to feel it on my hands.
With this in mind over the past six months we’ve been working with our factory to develop a Litebike version of the Supacaz Super Sticky Kush classic. We have improved on the design by using a new material that is easier to stretch and more pliable. This makes it much easier to wrap around handlebars of different shapes and sizes, without having to worry about creases or bunching.
We have also improved on the comfort of the Supacaz Super Sticky Kush. We have taken the cushioning a step further, increasing the thickness by 0.5mm. In cycling small margins make all the difference. This added level of cushioning makes our Litebike bar tape as comfortable as Lizard Skins DSP 2.5mm, but at a more affordable price.
We’ve just had our first few arrive at the Litebike Workshop. So if you’re after high-quality bar tape that combines the cool look of the Supacaz Super Sticky Kush with more comfort than the Lizard Skins DSP 2.5mm check out our first release and let us know what you think.
